CALENDAR

I would use the calendar along with the agenda books to keep kids updated as to important dates each morning during the morning routine. Since all of my children don't have internet access at home and limited access at school, the google calendar would give them experience updating important school related dates (i.e field trips, assignments, etc.) in an electronic format. Parents could have the opportunity to access this calendar. Students would take turns updating the calendar as part of the daily jobs.

DOCS- TEMPLATES

-could be used to test kids on their fast math facts.  It will also grade the test and send the results directly to your email.

-great for remembering the highlights of a special day at school, a field trip, or the school year.

VIDEOS

As most people are aware, Google is the owner of You-tube. However, there are many other videos posted on Google videos. The other places to find good videos include Teacher-tube and Vimeo. For those teachers who have You-tube blocked, I recommend downloading the video using Kiss- You tube, Kick- You tube, or You tube downloader. Never show a You tube video on the fly to your students, you will inevitably end up with an embarrassing situation. A great way to take a virtual field trip with your students and show them a place far away is by using a web cam.

BOOKS

Google Books
Google books provides a way to create a virtual bookshelf for your students and yourself. Some books provide a full preview and others are limited and give you a few pages. This would be a great way to allow your students to show their book when they present a book talk. If you can't find the book in Google books, go to a place like Amazon.com and add the book by ISBN number. Do this by copying the ISBN-10 number, copy it and go back to the library, add by ISBN, paste, and click "add book". To share it on your blog, copy the url. (Note- EPUB books can be downloaded if you want to download the source)

Shelfari is another resource besides Google books to create a virtual bookshelf.
